Los Angeles - May 2012

This was the first long weekend after my wedding in India. Ah and I drove to Los Angeles. We stayed at the Tangerine hotel. It looks outdated from the outside, but has been beautifully remodeled.  The decor is very modern and I loved the bright orange walls.

The first day we went to Universal studios. Two pictures in, the SD card in my SLR went bad and we got no more pictures. The next day we purchased new memory card and went to Palos Verdes. It is a beautiful drive along the ocean. The color of water is beautiful. When it is clear, you can watch whales and can get a good view of Catalina Island.

The next day we took a ferry to Catalina island. We were at the island for about 10 hours and we didn't even get off the main street near the ferry landing. Ah and I went parasailing. It was scary as the couple that went before us fell into the water as the rope connecting them snapped. After some discussion, we decided to still do it, got into another boat and got amazing views of Catalina island from 600 feet above the water.

The far end of the ferry landing had nice souvenir shops and cafes. We spent a lot of time there and also enjoyed the live music in the evening.

The next day was for the usual LA stops - walk of fame, hollywood sign, Madame Tussauds and Santa Monica pier.

On our drive back to the bay area, we took a detour to Zuma beach. I had read really amazing stuff about the beach in a travel guide and really wanted to visit. The beach was packed and we had to circle for an hour before we could park. I would rather go to Venice beach or El Matador beach next time.

Restaurant guide: Two of my favorite places in LA are Cleo Mediterranean restaurant on Vine St. and  Poquito Mas Mexican on Cahuenga Blvd and
